Body camera footage from a burning house in Chautauqua County, New York shows a brave cop rescuing children.
Jamestown police department shared a video which showed officer Mark Conklin’s body cam when he responded to a fire on William Street. Once Conklin got to the house, it was engulfed in flames with an adult and children trapped in the upstairs part of the house. The video shows officer Conklin running towards the house and pulling one of the children and telling them “ Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go.” Officer Conklin is also heard telling those trapped inside “C’mon, I got you. I got you. Jump. I got you.”
Police chief Tim Jackson praised officer Conklin and praised the officer for his bravery. On a facebook post Chief Jackson wrote “I can say that I have seen many examples of heroism over the years by officers, after watching the video of this incident and speaking to others involved, I can say that the actions of Officer Conklin were, to say the least, one of the most outstanding examples of bravery, heroism, and exemplary service I have seen. We, the Jamestown Police Department, are honored to have officers such as Mark Conklin working in the Jamestown Police Department” [FOX].
Chief Jackson also thanked the fire department for their help with the fire. Officer Conklin in an interview stated “only objective [was] to make sure everyone gets out. I’m just glad I was in the right place at the right time.” There were no injuries reported and as of now it is not known the cause of the fire [Newsweek].
