Biden administration announces it is reevaluating whether to continue construction of the border wall

Outcry from locals has prompted the Biden Administration to assign the Army Corps of Engineers back to the construction of the border wall. However, this will not mean the expansion of the wall itself.

“Wall construction remains paused to extent permitted by law. Per DHS, we’ve started critical work to repair the Rio Grande Valley’s flood levee, which was excavated to make way for border wall. This remediation work will not involve expanding border barrier,” The USACE clarified on Twitter. The repairs are apparently addressing the prevention of catastrophic flooding. Despite the border issue falling out of the hands of the governments charged with handling it, Biden has not stated any intentions to expand the southern border wall.

Some people argue that expanding our wall in the image of the Trump Administration would tame the border crisis but Biden has expressed opposition to expanding the wall in the past as well as most of the Democratic Party that now make the majority of the US government. A Hill-HarrisX Poll shows that 51% of registered voters in the United States find Biden’s strategy to be ineffective. Of that 51%, 83% were Republicans, but there were also 22% Democratic and 50% Independent voters who shared the more commonly Republican concern with the border’s state.
