Dallas racial activists ask white parents to pledge not to send children to Ivy League schools

A racial activist group based in Texas, Dallas Justice Now, asked white parents to pledge against sending their kids to Ivy League universities.

The organization’s public pledge is addressed to “wealthy white liberals” in Texas’ Highland Park Independent School District (HPISD). DJN’s call to action reads, “Commit yourself towards taking action and making sacrifices to correct centuries of injustice. Open up spaces for Black and LatinX communities by refusing to send your kids to Ivy League and US News & World Report Top 50 schools.”

Dallas Justice Now is suggesting elite college admissions should not be a system of meritocracy. Instead, “white folks” must “sacrifice their privilege” and thereby allow institutions to be “occupied only by marginalized communities.” Honors courses, standardized testing, and extracurricular activities can be thrown out the window.

Highland Park, a suburb of Dallas, is the third richest city with a median household income of $207,019 and a population under 10,000, according to Texas Hill Country. Parents who make the pledge to stop their kids from achieving academically commit to recognizing “the need to make sacrifices for the purpose of correcting hundreds of years of murder, slavery, discrimination, and lack of educational and economic opportunities perpetrated upon people of color.”
