Rep. Jim Banks claims Speaker Nancy Pelosi is responsible for security breakdown on January 6

Rep. Jim Banks made the claims during an interview on “Fox News Sunday” in response to Pelosi’s decision to reject him from the committee that will investigate the insurrection.

“Due to the rules of the United States Capitol, the power structure of the Capitol, Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House, has more control and authority and responsibility over the leadership of the Capitol police than anyone else in the United States Capitol,” he said. He continued by claiming Pelosi has “already predetermined a narrative about Donald Trump, about Republicans.”

Pelosi blocked Banks and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) from serving on the select committee after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) picked them. Banks said he was rejected because Pelosi “doesn’t want to talk about what happened at the Capitol that day” and is “only interested in a narrative.”

Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Wednesday she was rejecting two of five selections by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to serve on the committee, with the California Democrat also vetoing Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), another vocal ally of former President Donald Trump.

McCarthy ultimately opted to reject placing any Republicans on the panel — which is tasked with investigating the deadly riot, when a pro-Trump mob attempted to disrupt the certification of the election results — asserting they would move forward with their own investigation.
