Penn State professor allegedly told white students ‘you’re breathing so you may have oppressed someone today’

On June 30th, Sam Richards, the professor of a 700 student class on race and ethnic relations, told his class that white students are benefiting by having white skin.

“I just take the average white guy in class, whoever it is, it doesn’t really matter,” Richards told the class. “Dude, this guy here. Stand up, bro. What’s your name, bro?” A student identifying as Russel stood up to face the class after being selected by the professor. “Look at Russell, right here, it doesn’t matter what he does,” the professor continued, according to a report from Campus Reform. “If I match him up with a black guy in class, or a brown guy… who’s just like him, has the same GPA, looks like him, walks like him, talks like him, acts in a similar way…and we send them into the same jobs…Russell has a benefit of having white skin.”

In a previous class on March 4th, the same professor called two white students “oppressors” while consulting the class of the Coca-Cola critical race theory training. The international company made news across the nation after demanding their employees “be less white” (Gateway Pundit).

“White people have been like, ‘we’re oppressors, we’re arrogant, we’re really confident or certain, defensive — and dumb,” Richards replied. “White people are dumb. That’s a message: White people are dumb. That is a key message right there.” The professor then asked Brian, a student in Richard’s class if he had oppressed anyone today. Brian replied that he hadn’t. “Your breathing. Have you left your house today?”, Richards said. “Yes”, Brian replied. “Okay. so you may have oppressed somebody today”, Professor Richards concluded the discussion.

Pennsylvania’s State University has defended professor Samuel Richards’ teachings. “Professor Richards purposefully teaches in a manner designed to promote discussion across a spectrum of opinions. His class is a popular elective, in which each semester hundreds of students join, bringing their varied perspectives” (CDP).
