Seven months into his controversial presidency, Joe Biden reached his lowest approval rating.
According to a new Gallup poll, his rating fell to 50 percent in July, six points down from June. “The new rating is from July 6-21, which also finds that 45% of U.S. adults disapprove of Biden’s performance and 5% do not have an opinion.” 90 percent of Democrats, 12 percent of Republicans, and 48 percent of independent voters approve of Biden. The sharp political divide in the president’s ratings illustrates his failed promise to bring unity.
According to Gallup, “Presidents who served in the 1950s through the 1980s — when party ratings of presidents were far less polarized — had higher averages, with none below 61 percent.” Furthermore, high unemployment, steadily rising inflation, and a slow down in vaccination rates may contribute to Biden’s falling approval ratings.
“Biden’s approval rating is showing the first signs of meaningful decline. If the lower ratings persist, it could indicate his “honeymoon” period is over,” the report continued. “Because Republicans have been unlikely to support him from the beginning of his presidency, changes in his approval are likely to come from Democrats’ and independents’ evaluations of him.”
